Harvesting the Crops

Charlie's parents have planted a vegetable garden this year and this weekend while visiting we got a taste of a farmers life. On our first trip out, the garden was abuzz, literally. There was so many bees you could hear them buzzing. Val is afraid of buzzing insects so she and Brooklyn went inside. Charlie went ahead and picked a row of green beans. Later in the day we went back out. Brooklyn seemed interested in the plants.

Brooklyn next to the zuchinni.

Brooklyn got a wheel barrel ride from the barn to the garden. The next morning PaPa picked the corn and Charlie loaded it into the wheel barrel. We had two full loads.

Heres the girls shucking some corn. We only made it through one wheel barrel load though. Next step was cooking it. Gary had brought his outdoor propane cooker which came in real handy due to it's size. The corn was coming out of our ears! It filled the sink and every large bowl and pan MeMa had.

Here is Gary, Anna, and MeMa cutting the corn off the cob. It gets really messy but it's worth it. Not sure how many freezor bags of corn we ended up with, but it was a good batch. This brought back a lot of memories. Glad we were able to take part in it again.

Funny thing is, there is plenty more corn still in the garden. We probably picked about 1/5 of it and only did half of that. :)
